I want to get rid of all the programs on it and just have what was on the computer when I got it new. With my old HP I could just do a full recovery on it and it would clean the computer and reinstall everything that came with it. I now have a Gateway Media Center that doesn't have that on it. If I boot from the DVD that came with it, will it reinstall everything, including all the stuff that was loaded to work the Media Center.

What's the document's take on this one, that guide came with this machine? Are you given a legit restoration DVD from Gateway or some Gateway VAR disc?

If not a restoration disc, you only recourse is to pirate a disc and use that to reinstall a pristine setup of Media C.

It should reinstall everything, it's probably the equivalent of your HP recovery disk. It might have several options but you would want the one that would restore it to factory settings or format the drive and reinstall windows, might be called different things.

Next time u do a full reinstall and after u cleanout the junk u dont want..... then do a full backup ..

There are products out there to customize and create ones own restore cd or in most cases ..a dvd restore cd.

I plan to do exactly that on my next pc.
My current pc is using network storage as a full image backup.

Yes, such DVD was provided in order to reboot you PC as it came when your first plug it in. This process happends when you got yourself a virus or a serious configuration issue but you can always depend on it for matters like the one you stated. Just be careful and read what you're suppose to do beforehand System Recovery can't be interrupted or re-started.

Insert your RESTORE CD.

With a good Recovery CD, you can restore your computer back to a current installation. You can use it to reinstall a corrupt driver or even restore all of your data that you have backed up.

Boot from a bootable disk (other than your hard-drive), format the hard-drive and reinstall the operating system.
