You can get a free firewall from ZoneLabs, the link is below. Make sure to get the Personal edition, a link should be in the top right corner taking you to Download.com.
The ZoneLabs program will work better than the built in firewall with Windows. Windows will only block attempts to connect to your machine from the Internet, ZoneAlarm (from ZoneLabs) will help block programs connecting to the internet from your machine (if you want).
This helps prevent applications from connecting to the Internet unless you need them to. Some applications do this to report back what you have done, spread malicious data or just to check for updates.

Windows XP already has a built in firewall.

Reviews show that ZoneLabs' ZoneAlarm is much better than the default XP firewall. and you have some interaction with ZA which is really nice to have.

firewall is already installed in windows xp.if u want to have ur own firewall u can download zone labs it is free.
