The majority of people aren't on the extreme ends of the political spectrum. Aren't we all in the center somewhere? Where do YOU fit into this spectrum?

I agree. The US vs THEM mentality scares me.

When you consider the far-left and the far-right, the idiologies curve around to meet in the middle- fascism. Both try to tell me what I may or may not do. For example, the extreme-left would say I cannot pray in the street. The extreme right would say that I have to. Whether or not I pray in the street is nobody's business but my own.

The extreme right would take my property away because those who play the capitialist game better than me- especially those born with an advantage- would win. The extreme left would take my property away because we should all share.

The right does not want me to have equal access to health care, because socialized medicine is, well, socialized. If I cannot cough up the cash, or don't have a job with bennies? Tough. The lefties make me pay for public health care that I cannot use because I make too much money. Paying for health care for the less-fortunate is only fair. The folks on the left say that people who make money can look after themselves.

Groups like the ACLU fight for people of both ends who offend decency and common sense. They fought for the rights of a Nebraska State Trooper to be a card-carrying member of the KKK. They provided legal help for a black congresswomen who assaulted security guards when she refused to follow protocol and get searched on the way to congress, defending herself against "racism" and sexism," though the guards were just doing thier jobs.

I would have to say I am definately a moderate, hoping and dreaming for political Door #3.

On a scale of one to ten, one being ultra-conservative and ten being ultra-liberal, I'm about a five. On some issues I venture as far right as a three, and others as far left as a seven. But never any further. Yeah, I'm a moderate.

I would agree that nearly everyone else is as well. The only problem is that the extremists on both sides (Al Franken on the left, and Rush Limbaugh on the right) are the loudest.

There's no question that most of the country are moderates...it's just that the far left and far right are the vocal, annoying, whining, complaining newsgetters - due to their relatively fantastical statements and beliefs. I mean, FoxNews or CNN or NBC aren't going to give any time to someone who could go either way on an issue, or who likes to research the issue and form an opinion or stance over time....it doesn't sell tickets or pay for commercials.

This is a difficult question to answer because I try not to label myself in any area of my life because I like to have the freedom to change based upon new information. I think all of the labels are over generalizations as many who claim to be one show signs of other labels at the time. Should a person pick the average of their views for their label?

I like the first answer given because labels are relative, a comparison of two or more things. Even extreme fundamentalists probably compare themselves to others who are much more extreme than they.....

I suspect I am at the 65th percentile on the Conservative to Moderate to Liberal scale.

Unfortunately, not everyone is moderate enough. The Bush brothers could move a little more towards the center for my tastes.

It's hard to say where one stands. Some people I know say I'm SO liberal and others think I'm SO conservative. I think a moderate's position on the political yard stick is defined more by who's standing next to them.

Well,if you want to call the crap you sent me yesterday "moderate"

From: Bobby D

Subject: Re: C*cksucker? Nice Republican "stateregy"

Message: Well? It's YOU! I see you had a tantrum and reported me! Oh, poooor baby!

tsk tsk tsk...didn't get your nappy today?

F*ckin *****

Oh, and you should talk, asseyes...look at what you've written

Since when do I need a typically right-wing moral hypocrite like you lecturing me on moderation of all things?Yes,I think you mind-controlled by the far right of the Republican party,The e-mail you sent me,after nominating me for "C**ksucker of the Year"
only reinforces it.

You need to take a good look at how you treat other people.

I used to be a conservative, but then the whole spectrum moved right. Now I'm center left.

Yes, I think you are correct. I do lean to the right, however, I don't blow up abortion clinics or go around preaching the way liberals like to stereotype us. I'm not white trailer trash, I'm not a warmonger, I'm not racist. That said, I think I probably have liberals stereotyped as well...

I think we all have the best interest of our country at heart. We just see things differently, and I don't think very many of us are on the fringes, regardless of our political leanings.

Where individuals fit in the political spectrum doesn't matter if extremists are able to control their votes and actions using fear and prejudice.
