Death (Brad Pitt) gives the man Susan met in the coffee shop his body back.(which death had rather roughly taken when the guy was hit by a car in the beginning of the movie)...so she has this guy back that she had such an amazing coversation with, and Death leaves with her father.

Well Death took over Joe Black (Brad Pitt's ) body. He had come to take away Antony Hopkins' character but he wasn't ready to go yet. At the end, he finally took him (to hell or wherever) and then Death left the guy's body. Joe had met Anthony Hopkins' daughter earlier before Death took over his body, so he recognized her, but of course he didn't know all of what had happened the last few days. And the girl knew something weird had happened, but I'm not sure she really understood anything.

Means, Anthony Hopkins dies, the "death" parts with Anthony Hopkins's soul and leaves the body that was taking (Brad Pitt's), the girl meets the real boy (the human B.P.) and they "click" so it makes it seem like they will have a relationship and live happily ever after.

Brad Pitt is Death, Mr Hopkins is about to die. Brad is in love with Hopkins Daughter. She realises that Brad is Death. She expects that. As Hopkins does his last speech, death is ready to take him to the afterlife. As they walk away from the party they disappear, meaning that Hopkins dies. As a gift to the daughter, death brings back to life the guy she met at the coffee shop cause he pretty much owed her that. I hope this helps..Cheers!

In exchange for the father's soul, as "Joe Black' is the grim reaper... the father agrees to leave as long as his daugher is taken care of. Him and Joe leave - and the grim reaper agrees to return the original Brad Pitt character back to earth - you know, the one that got killed in a car crash. he gives his soul back - and he returns to live happily ever after with the daughter.

I love that movie. As I understood it, basically "Death" goes back to wherever he came from, and takes her father as he was always there to do. But Death vacates the body that he took and restores the guy whose body it really was, letting her pick up her relationship with him the way it was intended. Death's relationship with her was always based on her impressions in the initial interaction in the coffeeshop with the real guy. Death interfered with fate by taking the body and in the end, due to her father's teaching him about values, he sets it right.

Been a while since I've seen it, but doesn't Anthony Hopkins die, and Death basically lets the guy whose body he was inhabiting live, so he can continue the relationship with Claire Forlani?
