In the past, a lot and I mean a lot of scams have come out of Nigeria; but this is now becoming a thing of the past as Nigeria tries to re-invent itself. It has become an Economic and Political powerhouse in Africa (comparable only to South Africa) and even world wide people are begining to give respect.

Of course a lot of Africans will say nasty things about Nigeria but the most vocal ones are the ones who are experiencing the surge in numbers of crooks in their home countries due to economic difficulties at home. At the moment per capita, Nigeria is producing less crooks than some other African countries due to its positive economic outlook.

Of course your Nigerian fiance is probably part of the new breed of young Nigerians who are making it fair and square and who have dreams of making it big in a straight manner.

No I am not Nigerian, but I am an African, actually from the southern part of the continent, who pays attention to what is happening on the African continent and is especially proud of the positive things happening across the continent that are rarely reported in the Western media. Not all of us are starving and barefoot. A lot of us have tertiary education, are well travelled, do own nice homes and do have a couple of cars parked in our garages. But you would never know to watch CNN, BBC etc.

As your fiance will know, Nigeria is a huge country and it has a poor reputation, mostly built upon the fact that the economic situation in Nigeria is not brilliant and a lot of people are cutting corners to make a living. In Lagos, which is over populated, a lot of crooks are taking advantages of the system and create a lot of scams and problems. It's probably the same in Abuja. With a political system that is so corrupted, crooks have it easy. But by no mean it means that every Nigerian is a crook! People should stop this stereotyping so crooks are dealt with and others can be left alone to live without being under a magnifying glass!!!

Thank you I hate that I am Nigerian. The sad thing is we always treat people with acceptance and warmth we do not judge. I mean I hate what Americans do to people from other cultures but I respect them I have lived here since I was 7 and I have never heard anybody compliment Nigeria. Frankly I do not care there are rotten apples in that country but guess what all the big Nations cover up their rotten apples and make every nation that is a " third world nation" look bad. Yet they still need our oil. I beg just look over stupid insults because I know what it feels like I am sure he does lots of patience. I am proud to be Nigerian and always will be I am reconsidering applying for American Citizenship but my mother thinks it's a stupid decision that I should get it so i can travel without visas. Anyway Proud Nigerian and I am not in the group that CNN says of 9 out of 10 young men that do 419 . Can you belive their are programs out there by CNN and BBC teaching young children to look at their fellow Nigerian classmates with disgust? So sad. They can kiss my natural Nigerian ***!! LOL Good question.
