I hate it because I know of some who do just that and then my brother-in-law who really can't work due to a botched surgery that nearly killed him can't qualify for disability. He is still waiting after almost 5 years for his malpractice suit. I am talking about disability through Social Security since he was a subcontractor electrician and didn't get benefits like that through work.

If the person has a medical excuse and a doctor has diagnosed an illness or medical condition that prevents the person from working, then I don't think they are lazy. It doesn't affect you at all because the money paid has come out of their own paychecks. Haven't you noticed on your check stub SDI deductions? State Disability Insurance is money set aside for your own use in case you become incapacitated. Hopefully you will not have to ever use it but you will be thankful it is there if you suddenly are not able to go to work.

P.S. don't be a hater.

I really don't think about it because with any system there is always going to be abuse. I can say that it is not easy to get disability so if someone is willing to go through that process to get a limited income forever then they are getting what they deserve out of life. Trust me...it ain't much. The little they get is not enough to worry your pretty head about. Besides, the amount of your entitlment is based on how long you've worked.

Do we know the same people? I know a woman who has been doing everything possible to draw a check ever since losing the one she got for her kids when their dad died. She even tried to take her brother-in-laws kids. She is still trying to get a disability check for her various illnesses that are caused primarily by obesity. I know a guy who worked under the table and drew unemployment for months, while pretending to look for work. He would call restaurants at night and get the hiring manager's name to write down on his job search papers. He has four kids and takes care of none of them. I think people like this are pathetic, and I'd hate to tell you how I know them.

If it is true, then I am disappointed in them. But let me say also that it is wrong for people to look at someone else and say "You are not disabled." Some people, for example, might have SEVERE arthritis but still look normal when they walk a few steps. They cannot walk more though so they use a handicapped parking space. But some moron will say to them "You aren't disabled why don't you give that space to someone in a wheel chair?" So think before you judge too much for some day it might be you in that spot, being judged.

It really pisses me off. I have a neighbor who hasn't worked in 15 years and is on SSI because of a bad back....BUT, he has a new truck, camper, boat. Goes hunting, fishing and has one of the biggest vegetable gardens in town. I saw him up in a tree putting up a deer stand once. He was a limber as an ape. As soon as he noticed me, he started putting on a show that would make my momma cry for him...LOL

They get away with it...and I pay them ---and I got up at 4:30 am to go to work to do it...you figure out how I feel about them. I resent them..but I also feel sorry for them..because at least I know that I have done my bit to contribute to society.

Its selfish, and is putting a huge strain on the economy. It makes it harder for people that work to get the benefits they deserve in the future.
