After 9/11, everyone felt such deep sadness, and I wonder if criminals that hurt other people are capable of feeling this sadness for others, when they, themselves, cause hurt and sadness to others.

YES, but i believe it really depends on the person even if they hurt other people we all hurt other people even when we don't mean it. we are all human

I was going to say the same Johnny. Unfortunately, there is no way of knowing whether he really was sad or if it was just pretending, which is much more likely, of course.

You will have to ask a criminal. Since most criminals are sociopaths, I doubt it.
