Chess is an abstract strategy board game and mental sport for two players. The object of the game is to checkmate the opponent's king. This occurs when the king is under immediate attack (in check) and there is no way to prevent it from being captured on the next move.

But seriously, I recommend the web site below as a good guide to learning.

Also, there's a product called "No Stress Chess", which is a chess set you can buy that comes with cards that ease you into the game. The cards tell you how to move the pieces around, and it makes it easy for beginners to dive in and start playing without actually memorizing all the rules first. I highly recommend it. And no, I don't work for the company that makes it. :)

Its just to long to explain on this, actually playing a game on yahoo or msn would be easier, and then showin ya step by step.

it's a fun game it takes some time to learn but each peaice has it's own move good luck
