They really think they are the world itself, and nothing else of any importance exists anywhere else !!!!!!!!

Good people at heart, but sometimes very misguided and naive.
Examples: Prohibition, what a farce!
Sitting on the sidelines during World War 2 - and only joining when they were forced to, and then making a lot of money from it.
The war on drugs - and they consume the most.
The war on terror - and their foreign policies cause a lot of it.
Obesity problems in the US - and children are dying of hunger.
And then they elect Bush TWICE!
They can't seem to hold 'free and fair elections' - and then they want to 'export' democracy!

There is a very able, well educated element that is unfortunately only a small minority. The majority of Americans are insular, unworldly and over reliant on their media to form their opinions and they are therefore controlled by it.
You are being lied to by your government America. Your once great Constitution is under threat and your freedoms and rights are being taken from you on the pretext of a phoney 'war on terror'.
Wake up - you have a fascist government in democratic clothes and you are being led on a path of injustice towards ultimate chaos.
God save America! (I really mean it)

It's ok if they are argumentative and complaining, but for sure, the first two characteristics take care of the last.
