A soaking, shivering and starving hitchhiker, his guitar slung around him like a gun, with 100 stories from his journey of 1,000 miles through sleet, snow and rain. Perhaps I should have warned him that in less than seven days he, like me, would be headed back to Tennessee; and that the pretty girls at his destination wouldn't even talk to him.

Where was he headed?

Clue: Solo male artist. American.

PS: THIS IS A MUSICAL QUESTION. You will not be able to answer it unless you can grasp a song title.

Oooh...tougher than I thought. OK, the artist's possibly best-known song is a road with a snake in it...hee hee : )

You see, at first I thought it was Travellin' Man, but the clues just didn't add up. The Copperhead Road hint gave it away though.

It's NYC by Steve Earle.

And he's on his way there...

He wants to be a part of it so he is heading to:
New York, New York
These vagabond shoes
Are longing to stray
And make a brand new start of it
New York, New York
I want to wake up in the city that never sleeps
To find I'm king of the hill, top of the heap
These little town blues
Are melting away
I'll make a brand new start of it
In old New York
If I can make it there
I'll make it anywhere- New York, New York.
Answer to clue: Copperhead Road/ Steve Earle
