Unable to reinstall same pin in umbrella?

Question

I knocked out a straight solid pin in a self tilt outdoor patio umbrella but find it to be too loose in the same hole when I try to reinstall it. Why?

Did you reverse the pin? And how did you 'knock' it out?

After installing the pin, use a hammer and punch to place peen marks around edge of hole to help retain pin inside notch/hole.
