Modern cars don't need tune ups in the old sense. Those involved adjusting the breaker points, tinkering with the carburetor, and otherwise working with parts that modern cars just don't have.

Instead, you just need to change the oil regularly, replace the spark plugs, plug wires, filters, and the like when the owner's manual says to, and periodically inspect the hoses for leaks or wear. And change the timing belt every 60,000 to 75,000 miles if you have one - you definitely don't want one of those to break.

I am, of course, assuming that you have something built in the past 15 years or so, and are not trying to keep a '71 Nova on the road. If you are in fact dealing with something that old, it'll need a tune up yearly.

Things need replaced everyear check your owners manual if gives a complete checklist of the parts and when they should be replaced. I personally get a tune up every two years.

I have my car tuned up every six months. I don't like to break down . . .at all.

Every 30,000 is good.
Make sure you keep up on the regular maintenance though. (oil and filters).
