I have an interview for a teaching job on Thursday. It's my first interview after doing my teaching practice.

The thing is, I'm not really sure I want to teach at all any more. My last placement on the teaching practice completely destroyed my confidence and motivation, and I was desperate to quit and vowed never to teach again.

This job came up, and I thought I would apply, but never expected to get an interview. It's part time, close by, but it's partly teaching a subject I am not entirely confident with. My confidence in my teaching has completely gone. I feel like burying my head in the sand or going to do something completely different.

Is it worth the stress here? Do I do the interview? Do I take the job if they offer it? I mean, it's convenient to where I live, and it's a 1 year contract. But I don't know if I can go through the stress of teaching again. Maybe it's not for me..?

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

I say go for it. Don't let one bad experience keep you down. What were the reasons that you first wanted to teach? To be this hurt, you must have really cared about teaching. So I say give it one more try. Just make sure it is in a good environment.

Look back on your first teaching experience. What were the signs that you didn't know to look for that would have clued you in on the fact that it would be a horrible job? There are always clues; we just don't know how to translate them, until it is sometimes too late. Use these lessons to carefully check out the school that you interview. Remember you are interviewing them too! Be sure to tour the whole school. You can ask to meet some of the teachers in the school. That way you can get a good feel for how they like where they work. After all you have nothing to lose, and I am sure a good school would be happy that you are interested. Do most of the teachers and students seem happy (or at least not unhappy) to be there?

As for the subject, don't worry, just be prepared. I have taken a couple of college classes where the teacher is only 2 steps ahead of the students. You are not expected to know everything all the time. I think that the fact that you are worried about it means that you would really care and put a lot of time and effort into it! Don't ever sell yourself short, believe me there are already plenty of people who will do that for you :-).
Good Luck, I hope it works out for the best.

Go through the interview and I hope you get through it and get hired. Why? Simple. It is time for you to regain your confidence and motivation. It's just like swimming; just because you almost drowned the first time does it mean you'd never go swimming again. Because if you don't, you will live the rest of your life wondering how it would have been if you went through it all again.

As for the stress, it is for you to cope with. All you need to do is to define why this or that stresses you then find means to cope with such small things that when left unchallenged eventually develop into a mountain of burden you couldn't hurdle.

If you take this job, you will be going into a classroom that is yours to set up as you please. You will set the rules. You will call the shots. That is much easier than walking into the room of another teacher and trying to take over.

You will have to train the students quickly that YOU are the boss. You will, of course, have to do this in a way that conforms to school policy.

Give yourself a chance before deciding to give it up. Teachers are important. Good teachers are invaluable.

go for it.

im a hairdresser, and i studied all through senior in highschool, and then full time for a year after i finished school. I had no confidence in myself, but my dad pushed me to get a job. he even set up interviews for me. i was in and out of jobs all year. but eventually i became qualified, and i started feeling good about myself. one day i thought, im not putting up with the crap of my employers any more, and i started my own hairdressing business. once i started that, i knew that i was a good hairdresser and i knew that i could do it.... 2 years later i own and run a successful business...

if you just take the plunge and have faith in yourself and your abilities you will suprise yourself and do fantastic... im sure of it!! go hard or go home mate.

Take some time to evaluate your last experience. How was it different from your previous experiences. I'm guessing that they were different grades. Maybe the grade you dealt with last is just not for you. If this new position is for that grade I wouldn't take it. If the new position is more in line with your previous experiences I would take it.

dont show pessimism over any thing at hand... be optimistic... your attitude towards a particular thing will make a lot of difference..... if you are positive you will prepare it well... but if you have a negative attitude of failing then you will not be able to put in more efforts... and it will effect the outcome of that thing....i hope u understood......
