Move the 2 into the power

101 - 102 = 1 (obviously wrong)

101 - 10^2 = 1 since 101 - 100 = 1

101 - 102 = 1

moving - 102 to the right side of the equation changes the negative ( - ) sign to ( + )

101 - 102 + 102 = 1 + 102

101 = 1 + 102 = 103

Moving - 101 to the right side of the equation. The sign changes from ( + ) to ( - )

101 - 102 - 101 = 1 - 101

-102 = 1 - 101 = - 100

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

when moving numbers right or left of the equal ( = ) symbol the positive or negative sign changes.

move one of bars on the equals sign, and you can sort of get:

101-102 < 1

That doesn't 'feel' right... but its the best answer I can see.
