I am on the birth control pill and have been for over a month. I've just started on my 2nd pack and am on my 5th white pill. Neither me or my fiance have STDs and I would like to start having sex without a condom. Is the birth control pill completely safe all on its own?

It's supposed to be over 99.9 percent effective. If you take antibiotics, you should use a backup method. And don't take your pill with anything acidic like grapefruit or orange juice. It lessens the effectiveness.

I got pregnant on the pill. I took it at the same time every day for over a year and...whoops. No birth control is 100% effective. If you REALLY REALLY dont want to get pregnant, use a condom too.

People will argue on this one. Tons of people claim they got pregnant on the pill.

Well, I was on the pill for eight years and didn't get pregnant. I also took the pill at the same time everyday religiously. I also made sure to use a backup method if I was on any prescription medication, particularly antibiotics.

The stuff is proven to be over 99% effective. I think all of the women that got pregnant on it weren't taking it exactly how they were supposed to... I find it hard to believe otherwise.

It has been know for the pill to fail. If you want to just use the pill if I was you look at the dose off the pill has there is different dose's on the market the stronger the better for you peace off mind until you are sure I would use a condom

No method of birth control is 100% safe. If you know your cycle well enough it's reasonably safe on the last few days before your period, but otherwise your fiance should continue to use condoms just in case.

Yes. My friend and his wife used to have unprotected sex all the time, because she was on birth control pills and patches. Once she stopped using them, he had to use a condom again, but there were times when he didnt, and they got pregnant.
