People like to focus on how they look (image & weight) and buy things which they don't need with the money they don't have to impress the people they don't like. What's going on folks?
In the process, they will loose the weight but jeopardise their health, will feel good for the moment, loose their mind as effect, money and their freedom. They will work for their habits & lifestyles which driven by mainly by institutions. They will not stop to think what is going on here, what is the real truth, what do I really want, what I can do that will make a real difference (not buy gifts) to people I care and what I should be doing for the environment?
Come on folks, you need wake up to reality!

That is a wonderful thought but... I would be one of "those" people so focused on the look that I protray and the image that I have. I think that to some extent it is very important to focus on these things as they can open doors for you and help you get what you want out of life - No one is going to take an executive very seriously if they dont' "dress the part"
I however would be the first to admit it can and usually does get out of hand - but everyone has there own peception of themselves and even if they hear it day after day they may not actually see the truth - and they can't do anything about it until they make the choice to change.
The enviroment is very important but I dont' think that has anything to do with how much people focus on their personal looks - You shouldn't let just one thing run your life no matter what it is ... even the environment!!!
Wake up to what reality - Yours??

for 28 years i have pretty much concentrated on my outer beauty because I'm quite plainlooking and have to make a bit of an effort. However, recently, I have realised i become far more attractive not just to men and that kind of thing but to people if i corry about my inner beauty and what I have to offer as a person, what value I have to life as for most of it i've strived to just please others and beg for approval. i feel like i have been woken up as it were. its wierd because i am a person who sees inner beauty and have done all my life even though i have been so driven by material insignificant goods etc. i dont know yet how to work on it but i am in the process of learning. i hope more people can do this . it is life changing

Yeah i see your idea, just look at celebs nowadays, they are only generally famous because of their appearance and not nessiceraly their true talent - IF they actually have talent that is!
Not only is it celebs but its people you know, for example, i have been overweight for about 5 or 6 years now and it is incredibly hard to lose it once you've put it on, but thankfully i am losing weight now and already i have lost a stone! My cousin F* has been overweight herself but slightly longer as she is two years older than me, i find that along with her, their part of the family are particularly selfish and very shallow about things, and they are jealous and competetive with people. F* isn't greatly attractive but she is pretty, but according to the majority of my family, except for them obviously, say i am the better looking one, and how ever much this sounds vain, i agree. but a little off the subject slightly, because of this F* and her mother seem to find things, particularly the weight issue, something to compete with me about, and brag about too! for example, they brag about how much weight they think she has lost and how many times she has cycled after school etc. Frankly i couldn't care less, i want to be a size 12/14. but F* has said she wants to be a size 8/10, which is impossible because she had a larger frame anyway, but the point is that she is going to be just like her mother and have an eating disorder and its already starting now! It shows how self-absorbed people can be and i just don't see why everyone can be accepted for whatever shape or size they are!!!

This is an excellent question.
The question addresses vanity. There are people who have parts of their bodies cut away, their faces and bodies, filled and injected with foreign substances such as plastics.
A plastic surgeon, or a surgeon who practices liposuction, or breast enhancement will advertise his successes, but not the monstrous human beings he has caused.
I am not a young person, but, I have always let people know about me, what you see is what you get.
I hope the people who read this don't think it is a case of sour grapes because, I am married to a young beautiful woman and know that she loves me. She has to, in order to put up with my stuff.
That was a little joke, because, I am really an easygoing layed back person.

Yes, it is true! But there are some who work on inner beauty too. When you are young and insecure, and hoping to score for sexual reassurance; you do tend to concentrate on appearance.
When you look good, you begin to believe you feel good. Many women use make-up as a mask. Without it, they feel naked and exposed and vulnerable.
Once they mature and gain self-confidence, they can progress and concentrate on inner beauty, which is eternal.
Sadly, there are still old ladies out there who won't answer their front door without their make-up and best frock ... totally ridiculous!
Inner beauty is the only kind that matters.

u can't say evry1 is like this. look around. there may be 90% of people doing this but no matter what there will be a minority where u belong to. this has already became a social norm and people's perspectives on things are driven till this extent. u can't blame them for doing so as everyone has the right to do what they wanted to do. nothing is perfect. not everyone will do stuff u like. also, from your perspective u intepret what they did on themselves and on the environment are wrong. from their perspective however, it may not be. if u don't like people doing such things then just let them be and just hate them. u can't just tell them off people will think u are a jerk. this IS reality. blame me if you like.

Yes. Of course it's good to look after yourself- it's okay if you feel comfortable and confident weighting a bit less than usual, but sometimes it takes ugly forms.

Unfortunately modern society judges people on the way they look.
That doesn't however mean that everybody does likewise - but the proliferation of coverage in the media of celebrities, fashion, and "beauty" must mean that many people are obsessed with it.
Rather depressing really...

People like to hide from things and I think we are too worried what others think of us, why should we always have to worry what we look like as long as we are happy inside. But Im guilty of it wearing makeup all the time even when I dont want to, crazy, eh.
