It would depend on the capacity (output) of each machine, but eventually the dehumidifier would win. Humidifiers need a water supply and eventually run dry. The dehumidifier just needs power to keep working.

The dehumidifier will win. Both machines generate a certain amount of heat (as several other point out). This increase in heat reduces the humidity as the warmer air can hold more moisture. So the humidifier is actually helping the dehumidifier to a degree in an enclosed space.

It may be a science question but you did not provide sufficient data to determine the outcome. You must give the output of each unit.
For example, if the capacity of the humidifier is 1 quart per hour and the capacity of the dehumidifier is 6 quarts per day, then obviously the humidifier would win.
Chances are they'd both cycle on and off an maintain a balance.

The correct answer is the Dehumidifier. Keep in mind that the room will always have some sort of humidity in it so it will be easier for a dehumidifier to extract a gallon of water before a humidifer dissipates a gallon

Different humidifiers and dehumidifiers have different efficiencies, which will affect the result. Although if you run them long enough, the humidifier will run out of water, but the dehumidifier will keep working, so it would win.

The dehumidifier will win. Because it will be pulling moisture from all of the room not just the humidifier.

Actually, it is a joke. It's a total waste of electricity. However, since you apparently are serious.... since humidifiers use far less electricity than dehumidifiers (for the same transfer of air to water/water to air), the answer is simple... humidifiers... that is, if you want to know which one wins in terms of accomplishing it's respective task. I don't know what other criteria you might be referring to.

After a momentary win of humidifier (because there is already certain amount of humidity in air), I think a state of equilibrium will be reached. The amount of humidity added by humidifier will be cancelle out by the dehumidifier.

If they were both using the same amount of electricity, the humidifier wins, hands down. You also would heat up the room to some extent, because both machines generate heat (even the cool mist humidifiers will generate some heat.)

I think they will cancel each other out. The humidifier will run out of water and the dehumidifier will fill with water and shut off.
