I want to train my son on the potty seat, but his Great Grandmother says the potty chair is the best. Would this confuse him, I train him on the seat and she has the potty chair???? Thanks for your help!

He will be fine and you aren't gonna make your grandma change, she's set in her ways, you will be too when you get old.

Why not buy another chair for your house? I know my 2 year old likes having different options available to pee in, and it's easier to push out a poop from a potty chair (they can get leverage with their feet on the ground to help push it out). Potty chairs are only about $10.

It probably won't confuse him to switch back and forth though. Although he may have a strong preference for one or the other to go potty on, probably the big potty because that's where everyone else goes. You could get a convertable potty chair that changes from a potty to a seat reducer and stool, so if he does prefer one or the other, he has both options available at the lowest cost possible for you.

I guess it could be confusing to some kids. However, my son loved the potty seat a lot better than the potty chair. His potty chair was used as a step stool to get to the potty seat. LOL!!! Just use which ever your son likes best. Good Luck!

He's going to have to learn to use a lot of different potties (in restaurants, at different houses, etc.), so I don't think using a potty chair adds any confusion. My girls use both, and they understand that they're both toilets. We just call them the "big potty" and the "little potty."

I honestly don't think it matters how you potty train him, but I do think there are lots of advantages to using the potty chair.

-- If the bathroom isn't easily accessible to the child in whatever room he normally plays in, it can be handy to have a potty chair in the room so that he can go as soon as he realizes he has to. (This is especially helpful if he's running around naked during potty training.)

-- The potty chair is a lot easier for the child to get on and off of without help.

-- Many potty chairs come with "splash guards" which helps when your child forgets to aim into the potty when he's first learning to go. (I have girls, so this wasn't as much of an issue for us, but they did sometimes forget to lean forward.)

-- Some children aren't comfortable using the potty if they don't feel stable. Holding themselves up with their hands while their feet dangle isn't easy at first, and it can make it harder to focus on going to the bathroom. Some kids do fine, but others may find this very difficult.

Basically, I think the potty chair is a nice convenience, but it's certainly not necessary. Good luck to you and your son!

We used the potty seat and it worked great. No change in routine and he was used to sitting on the toilet. Just tell Great Grandma that you choose the potty seat and that is what you would like her to use. Maybe you should buy one for her house if he is spending a lot of time there.

It really depends on your child. You might have to try different things. I know that my son wouldn't go near the potty chair or a toilet with a potty seat on it -- he would scream, cry, run away -- then all of a sudden one day he just up and started using the regular toilet. Kids, go figure.

I never really liked the idea of a potty chair and cleaning it out is just gross. I bought a little step stool and one of those mini seats that sits on your toilet seat. Both of my children potty trained very quickly.

I liked a potty seat that fit onto a normal toilet, with a step stool to get up there. It was alot easier on my child and cleaner too. A potty chair is just one more thing you'll have to clean. My kids always got a kick from flushing it too.

I was using the potty seat...but at daycare they have a potty chair. I've found that they like to potty chair because they like to see what they've done.

potty chair is great for keeping in the car and taking on long trips, but as far as potty training goes, I always just used the regular toilet at home, I know people who use both, and the kids are just fine, have learned to use the bathroom etc.

That can be confusing for some kids yes. Teach your child that both are ok to use. That or it is your child, potty train them in whatever way works for you and ask her to respect your parenting and do the same so your child dont get confused.
