this is actually a really good question. i've tried to answer the same question but with another word where the grammar doesnt follow suit as with other words. will work on it and see what i can find out and maybe try and mail you. i think its something to do with the kind of word it is, but never having studied english to a great degree i can neither give you the type of word or the explanation. soz

Because the letter "Z" can not live alone. It must have another letter Z next to it at all times. It is much the same principle as fish that school together. If you place one schooling fish all by itself in a tank of water.. it has no idea of what to do or where to go. It is lost. That is how the letter Z feels as well. I hope this helps. Good luck ! :)

Because "quiz" doesn't pluralise in the standard way. If it did, it would be "quizs".
For the same reason we say "geese" instead of "gooses", the plural of quiz is quizzes.

It is because Z is one of the least used letters in the alphabet so they have to get rid of it some way..
