I was diagnosed 8 years ago (I was 22 at the time.) with the strain of HPV that causes cervical cancer, and consequently had a colposcopy. It came back with high-grade dysplasia (BAD) and I ended up having a LEEP conization. A regular conization is where they remove a large, cone-shaped section of your cervix. They normally don't perform this procedure with younger women who haven't had children because it makes the cervix weak, and generally they can't carry the weight of a baby, and end up miscarrying in the second trimester. With the LEEP conization, they take this little wand thing with a loop on it and run electricity through it, and scrape/burn the outer layer of the cervix off to remove the bad cells. How thickly they have to scrape depends on how far down into the cervical tissue the cells go. Generally the LEEP procedure isn't as effective, because sometimes the doctors don't get all the cells, and they continue to grow. I am religious about having my pap smear every year, and so far, so good...no more problems. I also had two healthy, normal pregnancies and two beautiful little boys. :)

If your doctor is saying it's a *mild* anomaly, then there is a good chance that it will resolve on its own or that the abnormal cells can be excised with one of a couple of outpatient surgical procedures. When I had CIN 1 dysplasia my doctor told me it had perhaps a 10% chance of ending up as cancer, but that if it progressed to CIN 2 the odds would go up to about 45%. I decided to take a wait-and-see approach and after about 8 months of Paps and colposcopies, I came up clear and have had no abnormalities in 6 years now. Your doctor is not lying to you to make you feel better; he's using the tools at his disposal (colposcopies) to keep tabs on a situation that is not all that serious at the moment but has the potential to become serious. If that happens, he'll surely advise you as to courses of treatment, but if he hasn't suggested LEEP or cryotherapy yet, he doesn't think there's a reason to do it at this point.

I recently had my second colposcopy in 7 years. The first time was CIN3 this time was CIN2. If you had anything more serious than a mild abnormality they would have had you in immediately. Try not to worry I know it's hard cos I'm still waiting for the final results of my last colposcopy in about 4 weeks. Although I am very surprised this is your second in 5 months, I am sure they do not say things to make you nervous, anything you are uncertain about you must ask them. I wish you all the best.

stop worrying honestly. i had to have 3 colposcopy's and they had to take biopsis and they said that i did have cells that could be cancerous so i had to have them lazered off. it sounds worse than it actually is to be honest. it didn't hurt really at all, just a bit stingy. I then had to have a smear every 6 months to check.i haven't been for ages now and the last smear i had was all clear so i don't have to go back for 3 years! i was well chuft! so honestly don't worry. lots of women have the same problem and its better to be safe than sorry x

I had two of these too and the second showed no abnormality, sometimes things just correct themselves. I am 30, was 25 at the time.

Dont have sex for a couple of days before because this affects the results!

They will try not to worry you too.

Dont worry until you have to.

Hope everything is ok....

Don't panic. It's best that they do the tests. Maybe they didn't get enough tissue last time. It's good they are being thorough. If you have had regular smear tests you should be fine. PS abnormal cells can take up to 10 years to change into cancerous cells

I had cervical cancer and ended up with a partial hysterectomy. If they catch it in time you'll have nothing to worry about. Keep your head up, you'll get through it.

(CIN). it is not cancer but if you leave it it will turn into cancer in few years time. Don't worry she/he is not lying to you to make you feel better.
