I would say up to an hour, depending on your car and its condition. Keep in mind that some cars require a four-wheel alignment to keep everything straight.

It depends on the vehicle. If its a toyota p/u with a solid front axle it can be done in less than 15min. Some more complex ifs systems may take up to an hour with normal conditions. The main time issue is when you have an east coast or midwest rusty vehicle. The rust siezes bolts and nuts and they may break which takes more time to repair. Another problem would be worn suspension parts such as ball joints or bushings. These may need to be replaced before an alignment can be completed.
The hidden truth that most places wont admit is often times a vehicle comes in that is within spec on the initial measurements. Many places will just act like they are working on it for a little bit and send it back out without alteration. IMO they have still earned their fee however. the setup takes time and the alignment racks are very expensive.

It really will take about an hour for most cars and trucks or SUVs once the vehicle gets on the alignment rack. If done correctly and all angles and adjustments are checked and reset. Keep in mind that there are 2 types of alignments one in which only the front wheels of the vehicle are checked and adjusted and the other in which all 4 wheels are aligned and adjusted.

1 they should have never aligned it seeing you had bad parts in the suspension as the alignment will not hold true and an alignment usually takes about an hour.

Why don't you just pick up the phone, call National Tire and Battery or Sears Auto or something and say I have this type of vehicle about how long does an alignment take?

It depends on the type of car and the type of alinement you get. some cars are fairly easy to adjust some are a pain. without knowing your type of car i would only be able to guess. if it doesn't need any modifications to be adjusted into spec's about 1 hour.
