"This computer is a DELL."
There's the problem.
Usually DVD-RW will write the disc, but most CD players and car stereos do not read RW discs of any kind - only R.

Did you format the the CD? Secondly.. your computer has a DVD opening.. does it have a CD opening.. you know.. you push a little button and it opens and you put your CD in? You indicated that it did not.. Mine has both and I am surprised that YOU do not have both.. Are you sure? If yours says DVD.. then you cannot use it for a CD

Perhaps this is a DVD only drive. A great many DVD drives will not burn CD's.

Yes, a DVD burner also burns CD's. Perhaps the CD itself is defective, or perhaps the software program you're using has "burn a DVD" selected instead of "burn a CD".

It should be able to burn CDs. Look up the model number in Device Manager and look it up to see if it supports CDs too. Or visit Dell's support site to see what model you have.
