If you are running something like Microsoft office
both formats will operate the same. Ask yourself what you want to do on a computer and tailor make the platform that suits you.
I run a lot of Media type stuff on a XP but if I could choose the Media Centre would suit me better.
Hope that helps

Basicly, living house windows XP Media Centre is the focal factor for all your media/song. you ought to use it to play dvds take care of your song and watch t.v. till you watch a lot of flicks and hear alot of song it may well be better just to stay with elementary XP.

yep MCE will let you record video, watch tv etc.
but it doesnt have some facilities of XP, like joining domains. So you cant currently have the best of both.
I have to use XP for work, but it doesnt let me stream video to my xbox 360, which is a pain

your best answer should come from a dealer that sells both. They should be able to tell you the differences and maybe give you a demo in the store.
You could also call Microsoft and ask there.
