There's a japanese proverb which is something like this.."a man who works hard(content with his work) sleep peacefully at ngiht)".
one of my mentor use to say this a lot... dunno if its true or not.. its basically means... if you work hard during the day and have no worries you'll sleep well in night...

So here are my advice based on this..
1. add exercise to your daily routine.
2. find out your stress causes and eliminate them after working
3. Live in today. If you are living in past or future you are missing out on today and they will always cause unnecessary concerns. You wonder about future and cry over past... which is what you should avoid.
4. Don't binge at night... eat at least 1-1:30 hr before you plan to sleep.
5. Go to bed at same time every night. even if you do not fell asleep.. don't go ahead and watch tv or read....
6. Have sex (yes sex causes men to go to sleep, you can blame it to harmones)

Sorry. Cats are nocturnal and are more active at night. But here is the good news, when your cat gets to be full grown he will sleep 22 hours a day at the most. Cats sleep a lot, and they like to take naps during the day when it is hot. The domesticated cat comes from desert cats, and they sleep during the day and hunt at night when it is cooler and they can't be seen. Cats also have eyes that were made to see in the dark. I don't think you are daft (i forgot what that meant) but I can see where it would be annoying. You can buy him a cat bed and put it on the floor, or you can make him a sleeping room (the bathroom maybe) and put his food and water and his bed in there that will encourage him to sleep. But when he is a kitten he will have a lot of energy especially at night, and will sleep only 16 hours a day. Just let him have his energy, he will only be a kitten once. :))))

Don't ever take the sleeping pills route!!

1. They will damage your liver big time and you can get into serious health problems.

2. You will get hooked up on them and you won't be able to have a normal life any more if you don't take your pills everyday.

The sleeping pills industry is damaging our health by capitalizing on our ignorance, and by distracting people from effective and natural ways to deal with this problem. I had been taking prescription sleep medications [Ambien] for over 5 years. It stopped working and I simply took more. Still did not work. Nights were very difficult - medication put me to sleep but I would wake up after 2–3 hours with a strong sympathetic response (fast pulse, pounding heartbeat, wide awake alert). It was a very difficult cycle to break. I was really in bad shape due to lack of sleep.

After years of struggling I was able to cure my insomnia naturally and pretty fast. I followed the Sleep Tracks sleep optimization program, here is their official web -site if you want to take a look: http://www.insomniacure.net

Ohhh..and Good Luck!

Keep regular sleep habits.
Try to get to bed at the same time and get up at the same time every day—even on weekends and vacations.

Avoid caffeine and alcohol in the late afternoon and evening.
If consumed too close to bedtime, the caffeine in coffee, soft drinks, chocolate, and some medications can keep you from sleeping or sleeping soundly. Even though it can make you feel sleepy, drinking alcohol around bedtime also can disturb sleep.

Avoid daytime naps.
Sleeping in the afternoon can interfere with nighttime sleep. If you feel you can't get by without a nap, set an alarm for 1 hour. When it goes off, get up and start moving.

Reserve your bed for sleeping.
Watching the late news, reading a suspense novel, or working on your laptop in bed can stimulate you, making it hard to sleep.

Time your exercise.
Regular daytime exercise can improve nighttime sleep. But avoid exercising within 3 hours of bedtime, which actually can be stimulating, keeping you awake.

Keep your bedroom dark, quiet, and cool.
If your bedroom is hot, noisy, or hot, it can make it harder to sleep.

Avoid liquids and spicy meals before bed.
Heartburn and latenight trips to the bathroom are not conducive to good sleep.

Wind down before bed.
Avoid working right up to bedtime. Do relaxing activities, such as listening to soft music or taking a warm bath, that get you ready to sleep. An added benefit of a warm bath is that can soothe aching muscles.

You sounds like suffering from sleeping disorder. If watching movies or reading books in bed do not help you, I suggest you see a doctor. I met someone who have the some problem with you. The doctor found out stress was the cause.

In addition to many of the suggestions above, try to cut caffeine after lunch, do not exercise just before going to bed (or after dinner), do not watch TV in bed, and make your room cooler before you go to sleep (open a window)... you'll see going to sleep in a cool airy room helps.

As to exercise, doing it during the day, might help feel physically more tired at night.

Yoga would help and so would listening to a relaxation tape before bed. We are going through the same thing with our teenage daughter - the main thing is not to give up. You will find something that helps you, but it might take some time. Have you told your doctor? There might be alternative medications that don't cause insomnia.

I have the same problem, but I don't want to take anything for sleep. What I have been doing is exercising and really pushing myself to do it. Makes me sleep like a baby!
