I have a 50 mile commute from my home to work. So I'm driving at least 100 miles per day. I spend about $80 a week in gas. So I'm very interested in the scooter. Do you need insurance to drive a scooter? Is it more or less expensive than insurance on a car? I wonder if it would be too dangerous to drive a scooter out on a major highway like the Pennsylvania Turnpike?

Depends on where you are going on the turnpike, but in PA I doubt that it is legal to drive a scooter on a major highway. I would look into that before buying one. Besides with such a small engine, I doubt a scooter would last very long doing 100 miles a day. Not to mention the fact that I doubt they go fast enough to be on a highway, and even if they did you would surely burn out the engine in the thing sooner rather than later.

Well, I'm not sure about the legality of it, but in reality, scooters today do in excess of 65 mph, which is over the speedlimit on many highways. Yes you do need insurance, but I think it is cheaper than car insurance. I believe many places treat them like motorcycles(in ways of licensing and insurance). As long as you know your limits I don't see why it would be any more dangerous than riding a motorcycle down the turnpike. Plus, you can't beat the gas mileage a scooter gets. I'd just check with the laws, and provided the weather isn't too bad, I'd ride a scooter if I had to go that far, but I'd probably look to avoid the turnpike.

they are puny little issues yet once you have in no way pushed a motor vehicle (or a go-kart) they experience useful, they take you as much as 30mph without attempt, purely a twist of the throttle. assume to fall off faster or later; faster or later you will hit black ice or diesel or loose grit (no longer so undesirable on a touch scooter yet on a genuine motorcycle you're able to experience over grit in a extreme equipment and extremely very heavily) or you will take a corner quicker than you comprehend the thank you to regulate and you will hit the brake and slide it. do no longer problem approximately it even with the undeniable fact that, see you later as you're donning the perfect equipment you will in all probability upward thrust up with no longer something worse than a bruised ego and a broken reflect. do no longer purchase a scooter from a wisdom superhighway shop. while you're staring at "scooters direct" overlook it, they do no longer sell something you like to experience, they sell the worst of chinese language scooters. purchase eastern or ecu.

well, driving on any major throughfare on a scooter is like playing russian roulette. Do you want to die? Consider other options. You sound intelligent enough to know what they are.

But if you have a death wish knock yourself out.

Yes you need insurance on everything in Pa.

The motorcycle idea sounds the safest to me. You know, enough power to help you get out of a bad environment.

My scooter is 600cc so I ride it anywhere. It'll go much faster than I will and I don't have to worry about all that shifting.
