Start with the addition and subtraction

1. Add 4 to -11 and get: -7=y/3

2. Then multiply both sides by 3 to get: -21=y

Done!

it depends

if the 3 is for the y only it goes like this
-11=4+y/3

first you get rid of any thing added or subtracted in the y side we have an adding here so you got to subtract it from both side so it would remain equal

-11-4= -4+4+ y/3
-15 = y/3

you got to get rid of the division by multiplying the number that is divided

3*-15 = 3* y/3
so you get y equals -45

----------------------------
now if the 3 is for the ( 4+y ) then it goes like this

-11=(4+y)/3
3*-11 = 3* [ (4+y)/3 ]
-33 = 4+y
-33-4 = y
-37 = y

hope it helps wishing you good luck and a nice weekend :)

to begin you should multiply everything by 3 to get rid of the fraction, -11(3) = 4(3) + y/3(3)
so then you get -33 = 12 + 3y
next you want to get the variable on a side by itself, so you need to subtract 12 from both sides
-33 - 12 = 12 - 12 + 3y
-45 = 3y
to find y divide both sides by 3
-45/3 = 3y/3
-15 = y

First u subtract 4 from both sides of the equation. ex: -11=4+y/3
-4=-4
your are left with an equation that now reads -15=y/3
then u would multiply both sides by 3 ex: (3)-15=y/3(3)
the threes in the equation on the right side of the equals sign cancels themselves out, and on the left you multiply 3(-15). so you are left only with "y" on the right and the equation should read: -45=y. to check your work plug in the value for "y" and see if both sides add up. I checked it, and it works. I luv math!!!

-11- 4 = y/3
-15 = y/3
y= 3( -15 )

y= -45

4+y/3 = -11
y/3=-11-4
y=-15 x 3
y = -45

-11=4+y/3
multiply by 3:
-33=12+y
y=-33-12
y=-45

OR
are you asking it this way? -11=(4+y)/3
-11(3)=4+y
-33=4+y
-33-4=y
y=-37

depends on whether it is 4+y/3 or (4+y)/3

if it's 4+y/3, then answer is -45

if it's (4+y)/3, then answer is -37

you need to seperate y from the numbers, as your math teacher explained to you in class.
