Do you wish that you hadn't been circumcised? My grandson is due to be born, and I don't understand circumsion. In today modern age of health and cleanliness disease shouldn't be a factor. Can an adult male choose this later in life if he desires?

Circumcision is rarely medically necessary. It's a touchy issue and highly biased. Know that around 80% of the world's male population is uncircumcised and only around 5% of uncircumcised guys have problems (medically) with their foreskins, and only a fraction of those problems are severe enough to warrant surgical intervention.

I'm uncircumcised and I've never had any real problems - no infections, no irritations, no tightness, no smell/smegma (since I learned that it can be washed underneathe). A lot of people don't know how to take care of a foreskin because it's been absent in the US for so long, but it's really easy and simple problems are often misdiagnosed and circumcision is recommended.

Below are 2 links, one to proper care (especially important) and alternatives to circumcision if problems arise, and the other just general info. The second site tries its best to be unbiased.

If I were you, I'd convince not to have your grandson circumcised. It's very likely he'll never have problems with his foreskin if it's well taken care of. Circumcision, especially infant circumcision, has its own risks and complications. With a rate commonly stated at 2-10%, he'll just as likely have complications from circumcison as from not getting circumcised, but if he gets a complication from circumcision it would be unfortunate because he probably wouldn't have had any problems otherwise. If it's not broken don't fix it. Besides, it's his body and something like this should ethically be his decision. If he wants it done later it can always be done later. There will just be a longer recovery time.

Well of course he can choose to be circed later in life.

I was born with a foreskin & had to get reluctantly circed at 28 due to a medical reason. Gee I am glad I did.

1/ I have no smell - I used to get a smell only 1/2 an hour or so after washing my genitals

2/ I now don't get my pubes caught between the foreskin {Gee I miss that - NOT!!!}

3/ My ex who I was with at the time, was also reluctant before loved it after saying it felt bigger than it was prior.

4/ Orgasm's for me feel more in tense

5/ My only regret was not getting it done tighter as I had a loose circ.

6/ No smegma

My advice is if you live in a country where circumcision is popular get it done. I remember getting teased in the locker room at school & felt so embarrassed coz 98% were circed. If you live in a country where it is now not so common don't get it done for your grandson - he can always decide later on and no it hardly hurt.

I opted not to get my son circed as it is no longer popular where we live but if it were we would. If he wants it done when he is older then we'll help him pay for it.

I've had a foreskin & am without so I can speak having experienced both sort's - I am far happier, cleaner being circed.

Another issue is what happens when he gets old - I knew a cancer doctor who told me he wished all males were circed coz of the complications when a male gets old & the penis is too hard to clean. He was like talking nursing home stage but something to think about.

If any one talks about being abused - "Get a life"

I was cut 50 years ago at the age of 6. I hate it!

It gets sore from running on my treadmill, or when I drive equipment on rough ground all day.

They say cut guys have more "staying power" because of the reduced sensitivity. How do you think it makes you feel when she asks "Arn't you soon done?"

Its like running a marathon every time we have sex, and if she dosn't feel like running a marathon, guess what, no sex. Can't blame her she's still sore from the last run.

Dry cloth is about the only thing I can feel, my wife's vagina is not made of dry cloth.

The pro-cutters claim we no longer need the foreskin's protection since we don't run naked thru the brush. Have you ever watched any of the "Funniest Vidios" shows and all the crotch shots guys take. Many of those shots are not just hits to the balls but also hit the penis and I know from experience some of those blows are sufficent to break the skin of an exposed glans, right thru denim pants. Getting a finger nail ripped off did not compare to the pain of a lacerated glans. Didn't even mark my blue jeans.

They also say uncircumcised boys get more urinary infections, but girls get even more and they just give them antibiotics, no cutting.

Some studies claim a lower HIV infection rate for circumcised males, that might be important if you assume your grandson is going to screw around and be to stupid to use a condom. I do not see the need to punish all little boys with circumcision because some are careless.

The American Cancer Society does not consider routine circumcision to be a valid or effective measure to prevent cancer of a man's penis or for cervical cancer of his female partner. Actually more boys die from complications of circumcision than from cancer of the penis, and many more are seriously maimed to the point of being sexually disabled. Just Google 'circumcision complications' & 'circumcision botched' you will see things that will leave you shaking.

If a male still wants to be circumcised it can be done as an adult with much more predictable results. The doctor can see just how much to remove without guessing. It is easier to do a good job with the fully grown penis.

There is just as much pain for an infant or child to go thru circumcision as there is for an adult. The difference is the adult won't put up with it.

No circumcisions before age 18.

His body. His choice.

I think it is a good thing. The skin that covers the head part of the penis should be removed, because the space in between is a ideal place for bacteries to grow. When he has sex, the germs inside the vagina, would find a haven in this area. While women has the germ killer, men don't have.

Though modern health can stop the irritation, the risk remains there. Men are not really care with their cleanliness when compared to women.

Yes, he can choose to be circumsized later in his life.

I feel circumcision is, by today's standards, a personal choice.
There are issues of cleanliness, particularly with young boys who are not trained to clean their foreskins properly.
This can be overcome by cleaning in the bath or shower on a daily basis.
Infection of the area can result from not cleaning.
Some doctors refuse to perform the operation, which is wrong, as it should be the choice of the parents.
There is also the preference for some religions to have the operation performed, the reason is not known to me, other than tradition.

Circumcision is significant once you've frost chew or ganggreen. i'm 37 and performance in no way had a topic with my penis. some say uncut adult men scent. I wash mine familiar and performance no problems with scent. Takes about 5 seconds to tug the foreskin back and wash. some say it helps ward off AIDS. So does that propose that when you're circumcised you dont ought to were a condom? How about practice threat-free sex and dont sleep round. some say it truly is going to cease you from getting phismosis. Thats an analogous as declaring that eliminating tonsils stops tonsilitis etc etc. particular some adult men may get phismosis besides the undeniable fact that it would want to be treated and likewise it truly is continuously brought about with the help of undesirable penile care. some say it will be executed to make the boy seem as if dad. My step brother and step dad were circumcised and that i in no way had a topic that I wasnt because I knew that i replaced into organic and they were no longer. Plus if the dad had red hair might want to he dye his sons hair if its no longer red? some say to cease infections. I have in no way had an infection and so some distance as i know no adult men in my kin have both (about ninety 5% are uncircumcised). some say an uncut penis is gruesome, So does that propose if i presumed that small breasts were gruesome my daughter must have breast implants? or I might want to dye her hair if I want blondes? It comes right down to the very undeniable reality that some adult men will like being circumcised and some wont yet contained in the authentic it stands proud because the mans determination. it truly is going to no longer be executed hostile to his will even as he's a toddler.

Lots of debates on this. I got my sons done right after birth. The doctor told me that it does reduce chances of infection and cancer of the penis.

Circumcision is the removal of some or all of the foreskin (prepuce) from the penis. The frenulum may also be removed at the same time, in a procedure called frenectomy. The word "circumcision" comes from Latin circum (meaning "around") and caedere (meaning "to cut"). The practice of circumcision predates recorded human history, with depictions found in stone-age cave drawings and Egyptian tombs.[1] The origins of the practice are lost in antiquity. Theories include that circumcision is a form of ritual sacrifice or offering, a sign of submission to a deity, a rite of passage to adulthood, a mark of defeat or slavery, or an attempt to alter esthetics or sexuality.[2] Circumcision of newborn males is a religious requirement of the Muslim and Jewish faiths, commonly, but not exclusively, performed on the eighth day after birth. It is also practiced by the majority of Americans, South Koreans and Filipinos.[citation needed]

The American Medical Association, in a report confined to discussing circumcisions that are not performed for ritualistic or religious purposes, states that medical associations in the US, Australia, and Canada do not recommend “non-therapeutic” circumcision, which it defines as non-religious, non-ritualistic, not medically necessary, elective circumcision of male newborns.[3] In the US when non-ritualistic elective circumcision is chosen, it is largely because of social or cultural expectations, rather than medical concerns.[3] The genital integrity movement condemns infant circumcision as a form of male genital mutilation that they consider comparable to female genital cutting.[4] Those who support circumcision sometimes explain their views in terms of the perceived medical benefits of the procedure.[5]

Circumcision is recommended by some physicians to treat medical conditions in males, such as phimosis, chronic inflammation of the penis, and penile cancer[5] while other physicians believe there are less invasive treatments for these conditions that can be tried first.[6],[7]

I am, but I wish I had a choice. The doctor didn't do a good job. It was too tight, causing bleeding as an adult and he left pieces of the skin left which I have had to have removed (and it still hasn't come out all that well). This is good info for complications http://images.search.yahoo.com/search/images/view?back=http%3A%2F%2Fimages.search.yahoo.com%2Fsearch%2Fimages%3Fp%3Dcircumcision%26toggle%3D1%26ei%3DUTF-8%26fr%3DFP-tab-img-t-t500%26b%3D421&w=286&h=436&imgurl=www.stdservices.on.net%2Fimages%2Fstd%2Fbalanitis%2Fslide10.jpg&rurl=http%3A%2F%2Fen.wikipedia.org%2Fwiki%2FMedical_analysis_of_circumcision&size=22.9kB&name=slide10.jpg&p=circumcision&type=jpeg&no=439&tt=27,008&oid=b4b966bcb76a01a8&ei=UTF-8. The risks far outweigh any perceived benefit. I say perceived because there is no definitive study. No major medical association in the world recommends routine infant circumcision. For every study for it, there is one or more against it.

I have an uncut penis and so i can give you the perspective of being uncut--I love my penis. Don't be fooled! The foreskin is VERY sensitive and i've orgasmed just by having my foreskin licked, w/ no stimulation beyond that. As far as it being a breeding den for germs thats ONLY if you dont clean it! Come on its 2006, our modern standards of hygiene are more than adequate to take care of uncut penises. I have friends who are from Europe and they're uncut (which also helped me as a teenager because I wasn't the only guy in the locker room w/ foreskin) and we've talked about it and we love our foreskin. Also smegma is only an issue once again if you dont clean or if you dont masturbate. If you do masturbate smegma doesn't have a chance to develop. Someone above me suggested that guys who are circ'ed last longer in sex-well duh, that's because their penis head isn't nearly as sensitive because it's been getting roughed up by rubbing against clothes its whole life. The penis, as originally created, is a beautiful thing. SAVE YOUR BABIES' FORESKINS IF YOU WANT HIM TO HAVE INCREDIBLE SEX!

There have been recent studies showing that circumcised males have less risk of getting the HIV virus. Wish I had the link for you. My sons are circumcised as it's tradition in the family.
