Acquaintances are people that you will speak to if you see out somewhere and are civil with as far as going out and hanging out thats where the "friend" comes in the picture. friends you spend time with and are not just civil to them. Its your own judgement on who is your friend and who is your acquaintance. sometimes acquaintances disquise themselves as friends and you soon will acknowledge that you are not as close to them as you may have thought

To me, the difference is a friend is someone you can talk to, may be call with a problem and it is someone you will probably hang out with. An acquaintance is someone who is good for making small talk with. Can't really tell them about what your problems are.

a friend is some one you communicate with on a somewhat regular basis & know personally....an acquaintance is someone you know OF, in passing or through a friend...maybe you say "hi- how are you doing" but never really have a conversation... hope this helps!

Friends are people you spend time doing things with, acquaintences are people you have met and just endure.

acquantances are people who you know but you wouldnt think of them as friends
e.g your boss, teacher, parents' friends
friends are people who you would go and talk to about most things and are always there for you
