Lies all lies from people I bet haven't even gone to college. I pledged and still had good marks in college. Actually all but about 3 presidents were fraternity men. Sadly, I found the secret formula in my Junior year. The trick is simple: Go to office hours as much as possible, especially for the TA's. Also, when you read, only read the first and last sentence of the paragraphs since these have the topic and the conclusion of the paragraph 95% of the time.

Don't pledge, only drink on weekends, and go during the summer.
Sadly, depending on the subject in which you're majoring, and whether it's a US university, you may find that your diploma is best used for bathroom hygiene. Get a sciences degree.

Go to class every day. Unless you're puking every half hour, go to class. Pay attention. Do your homework/read assigned chapters. by the profs. Talk with other students or your profs if you don't understand what's happening in class.
