I did a Sociology degree and loved it. It's very interesting if you are inquisitive and like thinking, analysing, writing etc.

To the person who says it's worthless- a lot of employers are interested in people with social science backgrounds. I had no trouble. It's an established "ology", not like all the silly "cultural studies" degrees that I agree can be less than intellectual, and I can't see how they don't full under sociology or anthropology in the first place.

Anyway I'd say take the module, it will complement your English degree well because there's a lot of writing but it's slightly more scientific in it's approach.

Hi I am just going into my last year of doing a sociology degree. I have found it not as inspiring as I thought, especially when you HAVE TO take research methods as a core module and it is mind numbingly boring and completely uninspiring. If you are doing it as a joint degree, you have to do the core modules, which are research methods and theory modules (either classical, or modern. ) The theory is far more interesting and inspiring and can be used to explain much of our social existence and I personally enjoy it. However, because sociology is not your only subject, you won't be able to study the more interesting modules, such as ones on crime, gender, ethnicity and poverty. These elective modules are much more useful and interesting, so it is these ones that are worth studying as they are good for future employment also. I actually now looking back would have liked to take Cultural Studies as my degree as this seems to centre on more relevant issues to society and seems far more interesting. It really depends on what you want to get out of it, if you don't like theory and methods THEN DONT TAKE SOCIOLOGY, but if you do, then you're cool! Good luck!

depends on what opinions you are looking for. If you want to know whether you should study sociology, you aren't going to get any valuable info on Yahoo Answers. I would say do what your heart tells you...if sociology is the path you want to take, take it. Do remember that the degree you get isn't nearly as important as the fact that you get one...

A worthless major.

Major in history or even pop-culture. Sociology is like the worst of modern degrees. It lacks rigor and intellectual honesty.

Is that BA or BSc? BA's aren't worth the paper they're written on, IMO.
