Top Rated What the Research Says
• Eureka Boss Smart Vac 4870 GZ
(*est. $150)
>> Where to buy Best value, bagging vacuum.Reviews say the Eureka 4870 is the best value in a bagging upright vacuum cleaner, cleaning as well or better than more expensive models, especially on carpet. The Eureka vacuum also ships with a sealed HEPA filter and does well in noise tests. This vacuum cleaner has on-board attachments and brushroll on/off control. At 21 pounds, the Eureka is a bit more cumbersome to push than the Kenmore Progressive 35923. You still have to change a bag, but for those who want a good all-around model for a modest price, the Boss is the best upright vacuum.
• Kenmore Progressive 35923
(*est. $250)
>> Where to buy Best bagging upright vacuum. The Kenmore vacuum's rotating brushroll helps propel the vacuum across the floor, so there's less pushing and pulling than with the Eureka Boss Smart Vac. While both vacuums do well on carpet and bare floors, reviews say the Kenmore works better with tools, a consideration if you plan to vacuum stairs and upholstery. The Kenmore weighs about 20 pounds and has a one-year warranty. Like the Eureka, it includes a HEPA filter.
• Bissell Lift-Off Bagless 3750
(*est. $180)
>> Where to buy Best bagless vacuum.Bagless vacuums collect dust in a removable bin. While that saves you from buying replacement dust bags, bagless vacuum do expose you to some dust during emptying. The Bissell Lift-Off is the best bagless upright in one test, and does clean equally well on carpet and bare floors. This Bissell vacuum cleaner has another unique feature -- the main suction unit is detachable, so it becomes an instant canister vacuum.
• Bissell CleanView II Plus 3576
(*est. $80)
>> Where to buy Budget bagless vacuum. The Bissell CleanView doesn't morph into a canister vacuum like the Bissell Lift-Off, but reviews say the inexpensive CleanView out performs its budget price. In one test, it cleaned carpet as well as the $600 Dyson DC14. Reviews note that the Bissell can be noisy, and some owners say it can tip over while you're using the extendable hose.
• iRobot Roomba Red
(*est. $150)
>> Where to buy Robotic vacuum. While most professional reviews say the Roomba probably can't totally eliminate manual vacuuming, other reviews say this disc-shaped, battery powered robotic vacuum cleaner does a good job. Because of its small size, it can get into small spaces like under furniture and near baseboard. Some wish its dust bin held more dirt. Still, owners say the Roomba is a fun gadget, and reviews say it is a good light-duty vacuum. More expensive versions of the Roomba vacuum include extras like a quick charger and a remote control.

Without recommending any particular brand I would suggest staying away from bagless as cleaning them either means taking them outside or scattering what you just vacuumed back into the air plus a bagless does not catch everything. One with a hepa filter will keep the most particles out of the air as you vacuum. An upright is always easier to use even tough a canister type does have more power. You really should have both as the tools on an upright don't work as well (less suction) but the canister types don't really beat the rug enough to loosen all the dirt. I did have a central vac with a beater head - hated it.

I've had quite a few and found Hoovers actually do suck.
The best one yet though, is a canister from Kenmore, the middle of the line Kenmore at Sears for about $200 (I think I paid?). I chose this one because I used my dad's and fell in love with it.
Here's what I usually do before paying lots of bucks...Head to www.ConsumerGuides.com and see what they have to say. It'll show you the Kenmore is best in value (I believe) and if I remember correctly from about six years ago, the Eureka Boss upright (Is what I had before...but the cord was so short) Anyway....I love the fact that the Kenmore's cord rewinds all by itself too and the attachments work great for stairs and cars too.
Good luck though. Hope you find what you're looking for.
OH...and then go to FROOGLE.COM and find who sells it for the least amount of money!

Vacuums, all of them suck, or might want to besides. shop manufacturers: Bissell, Hoover, Eureka, airborne dirt and dust devil etc are all sturdy. yet no longer outfitted to do the heavy duty vacuuming that a commercial vac is designed to do. i'll attest to those i have listed. I have amassed probably 15 diverse fashions in the course of the last 365 days from the faculty condominium community we stay in. I pull em out of the trash. replace the belt, sparkling em up and promote em on craigs record for $15 -$sixty 5 each. I have owned the Rainbow, albeit $1800.00 new, you'll get them on craigslist for $2 hundred.00 to $six hundred.00. it truly is an wonderful vacuum and could provide many many years of hassle loose service. the proper function the Rainbow brings to the table is that's one hundred% dirt loose on the exhaust. call a Rainbow distributor, ask for an in-homestead demonstration. you'd be inspired. yet purchase a used one. you'll keep many many one hundred's of money. sturdy success...

Excellent and used by a lot of carpet cleaning companies.
We have had Dysons before but they just clog up and the filters take a lot of looking after.
