...you know - the abortions where the parent and/or child is not at any medical risk, and the pregnancy is treated as though it is some disease with mysterious origin and that has no other cure or prevention.

Federal law restricts Medicaid funding to only paying for abortions that are deemed "medically necessary" - in instances of rape, incest, or when the life of the woman is endangered. The monies that come from federal- and state-funded programs that provide health care to low-income Americans do not go towards elective abortions. Under those definitions, it's not "that much" money - for example, take the state of Kansas. From October 2004 till August 2005, the state "only" allocated $1,907 for seven abortions which met the above criteria; in the year before that, it was "only" $999 for a sum total of three abortions. I completely understand where you are coming from, but this is just one of those hot topics in the abortion discussion, I guess.

There is a school of thought that contends that pregnancy is a medical condition worthy of state health care treatment. It would appear that extra ordinary circumstances such as rape and the health of the mother should qualify for public abortions for the poor and indigent.

All other abortions would appear to be elective and not medical necessities. Elective procedures should be consider an indivual option and paid for personally, not by the state.

It's sad but, the majority fo the votes prevail. There are many topics and hidden new lwas and orders mixed in with the main stuff that people vote on when we vote that we are una ware of and in each type of government everything has a balance of good and contreversy. Just try to choose the lesser of the evils next time you vote. Any thing that has to do with death , don't vote for it even if you have a larger tax somewhere else.
