Products fall into "pull" and "push" products. Whatever the product or service, people instinctively smell a rat. You can fool all people some of the time. You can fool some people all the time. You cannot fool all people all the time!
When you phrase your question in this manner you have the wrong end of the stick. It is not what you think but what I think as the purchaser, that matters. At the moment many direct marketing especially those outsourced to foreign countries are backfiring in a big! big! way.

No. I don't want people knocking on my door to sell me anything. I don't even like it when they hang advertisements on the door handle. We are always up to our eyebrows in advertisements: telephone, mail, TV, radio, magazines, news papers.

no. i actually got one of those "no soliciting" city ordinance signs for my door. i can't stand it. every time someone knocks on my door, my dog goes crazy. and, believe me, i've tried to get her to stop doing that but to no avail. the thing with that is, i have an 8 month old and he naps. i like his nap time. i can get stuff done.
