no, it's not really that bad--much less harmful than smoking
what you smell is acetone, a very common solvent
if you're scared, keep them away from it, but it's not anything to worry about. Most people go through a lifetime of acetone exposure and never have any issues at all. Just don't feed it to the kid.

Doing one's nails is not recommended during pregnancy, or in the vicinity of a young child, because the fumes are harmful. Smoking is the same. Unfortunately a lot of people still do even though they know they shouldn't.

Yeah, there are a lot of chemicals. It's more of a long-term health effect thing though. Once in a while isn't going to hurt him so much, but it doesn't hurt to do nails when baby is sleeping in the other room.

probably isn't a good idea, however it would depend on the room size, and how close the occupants were to each other while using the chemicals. I agree, to be safe I wouldn't have a child in the same room.

This is really a question of common sense. If it is bothering you, then of course, it is harmful to have your child around the chemicals as well.
