Empowerment is what motivation is about. Why do you think both you and all of us are drawn to this "game" by Yahoo with its "carrots" and "sticks" but nothing really serious about the rewards? The moment your dissertation smacks of snoberry and an "us against them mentality", that's the end of any motivation. Look at the devastation of Emron and what manipulative behaviour wreaks, to those "he" tried to motivate - the downfall includes himself and those in the "in group" he chose to reward!

That's a rather broad area for a dissertation. Do you have a particular industry focus? Have you identified your target subject groups? Are you planning to test intervention methods or just do a descriptive study? Any specific company(/ies) targeted? At what level or functional lines of work? Up and down the whole hierarchy? Or just the administrative group, or technical group, or middle management group?

I'm just trying to put myself in the shoes of your adviser and start asking hard questions that would make you define your direction....
