As an X-driver instructor, in Ohio, students are required to have 4 sessions of 1 hour instruction.
You should only need 1 SET of sessions (1 lesson which is 4 - 1 hour sessions) with a qualified instructor, that knows how to instruct each student as THEY need.
In 1 year's time, I had only ONE student fail on their first attempt, they passed after a 1 hour add-on training session.
I don't know where you live, but here in Dayton, Ohio the requirement is "manueverability test" and a "driving test". Each can be tricky in their own ways, but easily passed with the right trainer/instructor and the right practice which the instructor should cover also.
Feel free to email me if need be.

The more lessons you take the better you get...even experienced drivers could use a few lessons every now and then
