there are a variety of reasons for the above list. I am mainly thinking about melody and great lyrics and the 'feel good' factor.

As far as true rock and roll bands go. I would have to say AC/DC because of how the personalities and the lyrics and music all went together. Bon Scott and Angus Young, what a pair! I recently bought a DVD of AC/DC called "Family Jewels" I absolutely loved it!! I shed a tear while i watched Bon Scott sing like no other, truely a great loss.

Led Zeppelin. I first heard them in the early 70s when they only had 3 albums out (ie BEFORE they'd even written Stairway to Heaven") and loved them Zep 2 was one of the first albums I ever bought; on vinyl of course, in those days. I now have it on CD and have the Box Set - and the live 3 CD set...etc. Rock on
