Hi !
I have registered a domain - abc.com and 50 MB of webspace from some hosting company.

Currently, my domain name points to a couple of name servers provided by the hosting company (Name Server 1 and Name Server 2)

What I want to do is get rid of the hosting service and point the domain name to some other site -
eg:> http://myname.googlepages.com/

How can I do this?
Currently I have put a redirector page on the old site, which redirects the user to the new site - but once the year is over, I will not be able to do this...

You'll need to substitute the hosting companies DNS for one that you provide. I'm currently using Sitelutions. It's free and supports dynamic DNS. http://www.sitelutions.com

Make sure that you are the legal owner of the domain name. Some hosting companies will register a domain for you but keep it in their own name and "rent" it to you.

Open an account with your substitute DNS provider. Add your domains. Go to the registrar's page and log in to your account. Find the DNS option and enter the names of the DNS servers (at least 2 are required) provided by the DNS service. Depending upon the TTL settings, it may take up to 24 hours to propogate throughout the internet.

Contact the host for the new site where you want to name to point. They will have a process for switching the name for you. It is something they do on a daily basis. You can not do it yourself. It has to be done by the host.

How did you register that domain?
is it on your name or on the name of the hosting company?

if it is the latter....
First, try to arrange it with the hosting company.

if that does not work find out who the registar is of you domain.
a registar is a company that is allowed to create domains.
It can be that your hosting company is the registar.....

then find out who is the administritive contact for your domain.
you can do that via http://www.whois.net/ .

Is that you then you can change the name servers yourself
is that the hosting company then you have to ask them to make you the administrative contact.

Then go to the webpage of the registar.
Find out for that specific registar how to gou asbout with changing your dns records.

You need to set up a foward record on your DNS.

The one I use is godaddy.com and you go to Manage Domains then click fowarding and enter the website that you want.

This depends on your hosting company.
