I think your idea is a good one. You might just add in some other photos from that era that he might like as well.
Send out a generic letter to your relatives asking for whatever they have and tell them what you need the pictures for. I'm sure everyone could find some little picture or momento. If what you DO find needs restoration, take the stuff to a camera/photo place and they can help you photoshop or fix them. Someone in the family might also have some video that you can swipe photos from (also at the camera place). Good luck.

The pictures would be very nice, You also need to show him all the love you can. Spend the day or maybe the weekend with him on his B-day. I bet that would make him happy. Just dont forget to show him ALL the love that you can. I bet he would really like that alot more than a gift. Tell him I said Happy B-day and congrats on turning 95.

Make a picture clock. At Walmart they have a clock with spaces for pictures where the numbers should be and you could put pictures of the family in there, like your parents you siblings, maybe even other aunts and uncles. Got one for my dad for father's day with a picture from each month of my daughter's first year and he loved it, wants another one for him to hang at work.

Instead of getting his old pictures (that would be tedious!!!) get your family to send you their favorite pic with Gramps by email and maybe a funny or sentimental story. Print them all out and compile a quick scrapbook. He won't care if it's not "perfect" and will love all the pictures of his family.

Old pictures since gone might be pretty much left behind. I think your grandfather would love a story from each of his grandchildren of their favorite times with him. It is better that he hears it now while he is living instead of at a funeral.

A small picture book would be nice (if he doesn't already have them). Otherwise, have a family dinner gathering or just go visit. Having you there I'm sure is enough.

Quality time- you may not have as much as you think.
Quality Love- you have MORE than you think.
P.S. to others - use the spellchecker that's offered by Yahoo, and knock off with the cyber-slang! It really does matter in how others view you. thank you
