Roddick's power game has historically been blunted by Federer. As long as the current #1 maintains his focus and intensity and remains healthy it is unlikely the Roddick will replace him atop the rankings. Federer is a rare talent that will be terrifically difficult to surpass.

That said, if Roddick keeps working hard and learning under Connors, he may be able to score a couple of grand slam victories and is certainly capable of regaining a spot in the top 3. As of right now, attaining the #1 rating is quite a reach in my estimation.

#1 is very unlikely with a guy named "Roger" around. Even #2 is quite a s-t-r-e-t-c-h. For '07, U'd figure that Nadal will win at least one GS and 2-3 master series (AMS). Fed will probably pick up 2-3 GS with 3-4 AMS. Not much left. U won't become #1 by winning 1 AMS and reaching a GS final.
Just ask Nadal! He won 1GS and 4 AMS (total 10 titles) last year, and Fed STILL had a huge point lead! Roddick will probably gain grounds after this tournament and next year 'cause he was just horrible earlier but still a long way to #1.
Aside from beating a less than 100% Hewitt on Wed. he's struggled against top 15 players all year....and those are the guys you need to beat to reach #1.

roddick is playing so much better, but even with connors on his side, the highest his ranking will be is 3. let me tell you why. federer and nadal. they are so dominant right now, they will take all of the grand slam titles which eliminates roddicks chances to becoming the #1 player. what really hurts roddick is the clay court season, during that stretch, he receives no points and in the french open, he's lucky if he makes it to the 2nd round. roddick is not even the #1 american, blake is. he should worry about that 1st.

I agree with the Professor's answer.

Roddick, with Connor's on his side, will win some grand slams and be in the top 5, but as long as Federer is in the game, he will not be #1 according to ATP.

Even with 100 coaches and 100 years, Andy Roddick will NEVER be No.1.

The reason... Roger Federer is invincible because his game is so COMPLETE.

I could see him making it up to #3 with some consistence if he continues to play well. Making it in the top two will be quite a stretch with Federer and Nadal winning all the time. In order to move past them he will need to beat them face to face the majority of the time. Not only that he will need them to lose in earlier rounds so they don't get more combined points. The problem with surpassing them is that any tournament they are in they usually make it to the finals.

A man is riding through the desert on his camel and finds a sudden urge to have sex. Realising that there are no women around he turns to his camel. Just as he tries to position it, it turns around and bites him on the balls. He gives up and carrys on riding.

A few days later he gets the same feeling all over again, still there are no women around so again he is forced to rely on his camel. However, as he tries to position it, the camel bites him on the balls again. As before he gives up and carries on riding. A couple of days later, he reaches a small village only to find 3 gorgeous looking blondes in the back of a mini cooper. One of them gets out of the car and approaches him.

"Excuse me" she said "but could you fix our car, as we have just broken down, we'll offer you anything in return?"

Knowing alot about mechanics the man takes up the offer and agrees to fix their car. An hour later, the man had fixed the car and all three blondes walked up to him.

"Thank you very much, thats great!" said the first blonde.

"Well what do you want us to do?" said the second.

"We'll do anything!" said the third

After thinking about this for a while the man replies "Can you hold my camel's head still?"
