Bjorn Borg, IMO.
Rated no. 1 by a vote of men's professional tennis players annually from 1976-1980. The only man to win Wimbeldon 5 years in a row, won the French Open 6 times, runner up at the US Open 5 times, and won French-Wimbledon back to back 4 times. Retired at the age of 26 when he was still among the tennis elite and proabably could have been dominant for several more years.

Time will prove that Roger Federer is the best tennis player in the history of the sport.
His COMPLETE game and focus on improving his technique will allow him to remain at the top for a very long time.

Pete Sampras?????
Gimme a break. He is not even in the top 5.
Jimmy Connors!
-more tournament wins than any other tennis player
-competed against the greatest players to ever play the game (Macenroe, Borg, Lendl, Becker, Edberg)
In 5 years that honor might go to Roger Federer.
Sampras.... you guys crack me up..

Sampras hands down. If you look at the slam title and money leader list of all time you will see Sampras at the number one spot. As for the potential of topping that, then I would say Federer. Although this era isn't as competitive as Sampras's at his prime.
