Who does like fake people??
Sounds to me like you're trying to convince yourself that you are better off without friends, which isn't true, ever.
Make an effort, smile! You'll get to know your class mates and feel more comfortable with them and it could all happen naturally. Other than that put yourself up as an example in the psychotherapy class!

Don't be sad and serious all the time, people like to stay around positive and fun people, of course be yourself, always friendly, ask them questions about their life, don't just talk about yourself, show them that you are interested, try to remember their name:)
You saying it in college, well there some subjects that you might get interested in, look for friends who are interested in the same thing, than you won't really get bored with each other. Try to get contact details and give them call sometime just to find out how they doing.

The first step is to know that you are not the only person with this problem. Most times others too hesitate to make the first move and are relieved if you go up and smile and say 'hello'. So just go right ahead and break the ice. All the best!

I am a very direct and honest person and vary of people but friendly too, trust them till they prove me wrong, but the study you are doing you have to try to talk to people thats the only way you will learn more about them to help you in your studies, they are not all fake out there something must have happened to you for you to think that get to the bottom of that problem.Best of luck in your study.

Go meet people with an open mind. Even if your instincts tell you that people aren't their natural self in front of you, accept them as what they are.
You need to come to terms with the fact that people tend to have multiple facades when they get older. We can't conclude that people get more 'fake' with age. They just learn over the years the appropriate behaviour in different situations.
If you wish to make more friends, you need to initiate with a ready helping hand, a warm smile and be accepting of others.

Just stay calm and be yourself because friendship is a mutual thing. If they want to be your friend and you want to be theirs. A friendship will begin to appear as long as you give it some time. And always remember nobody want to be friends with a fake. So don't change yourself just to make new friends.

When seeking friends, always go for quality as apposed to quantity. I do. The few (close) friends I have are really nice people.
