Furthermore when a parent names a child they have no idea what their personality will be.

Although a person does not usually choose their own name, their personality may be influenced by the name they have been given as they grow up and people react to that name.

I can imagine that some of the poor children of celebrities who give them ridiculous names grow up with some personality problems.

People are products of their environment. Having met hundreds of people, all with similar names, never have any ever struck me as being in the slightest, similar to each other.

Absolutely not since our personality is shaped by our experiences, and our name is given to us at birth. Sometimes nicknames are created to give an indication to personality, so there might be some merit in that.

I don't think so, because there are a lot of names in this world and the names are usually common. But there's a study that studies the name origin called nameology.

If they understand, on some level, the unconscious applications of their name and they internalize it. Much like labels. Call some 'screw-up' enough and they may identify with it and begin to exhibit your expectations of the label. This may seem unlikely, but there are very, very few female lawyers, doctors, or proffessionals with the name 'Candy'.

i think that as long as the name chosen for a baby has a good meaning (my real name means 'blessed'), it can onlybe a good thing. Another thing that I have noticed though its that different people with the same name often have similar habits/chacteristics.
Also people often say "you look like a micheal"

Since our names are given at birth, I think we grow into them. When you give yourself a name, such as these nicknames we choose for the forums ...I think they are a much truer indicator of the person's personality
