Because just thinking of yawning brings you to a state a relaxation.

Look, when i read YAWN in capital letters, I felt like yawning. I think it is because you immediately picture yourself yawning as soon as you read the word. It is your brain!

yes it is contagious.. may be bcoz sleeping is the second best thing in the world. The first one is sex.
