If you saw a girl being treated roughly by a guy in a public place, would you stop to help or would you ignore it, thinking it's really none of your business?

I would and have stopped to help them. And I also would whether it was a girl or guy, our species or not.
For whenever something is being harmed we have the right as living beings that interact with the world to do so, and in doing so must except the concept that each one of us effect our world, and therefore if there are individuals displaying violent, aggressive and unadvantagefull behaviour toward themselves and others.
Then we always have the right and should try to help in some way; preferably in the most benefiting actions, not just on impulse or emotions!
If we are too weak or out numberd for instance, then we should find another way of helping.
Other peoples actions effect our world, therefore it is indirectly and ultimately affecting us in the long term.
For instance if a kid is raised bad by his parents, then in the future he may treat ourselves and others bad, and then raise his children bad, causing this constant cycle.
This is also something that is distructive to themselves, and when people are not educated, or mentally stable enough to make correct decisions. Then they are dangerous to themselves, and it's the duty of people who are more educated or can see it's wrong, to not just winge and complain about it; but to do something about it, and take responsability to help them, and in the long term themselves! Another example is the girfreind scenario, if a man is mistreating a girl. Then he is sending a message to everyone else that the behaviour is exceptable. Therefore it is our duty if we feel differently; to teach others through our own respectable actions, that their behaviour is not exceptable.
I'm not talking about through violence either. There is nothing much more scarier to those kinds of people, then showing them love, and smiling at them, (Ha Ha Ha) they don't understand it or know how to act, because they have never experienced actions like this.
So they get scared of it, and all their confident energy they have built up, falls down very quickly (as quickly as their ability to lose their temper!)
Getting back on point, if we let things like this happen to these girls, then it would cause a problem to ourselves. (although there would already be a problem, if we could just ignore this behaviour.)
We should never except these things in society, although when we choose not to, we should be quick not to act on our emotions.
We should stop and think rationally and think what would be the most beneficial actions to take, for ourselves benefit and for others, for if we are to fail at this and turn to violence, then we will just become the problem, we are fighting against!
I also don't think we should punish these kinds of people, we should just let them know it's unexceptable behaviour and then help them, and teach them.
I think the biggest thing everyone needs to do, to resolve these problems, is for more education in human behavior etc. To inable us to learn how to listen to eachothers problems more, and to speak more truthfully and uninsecurely about our problems to others, also it will allow us to effectively communicate, to help us help and guide eachother.
Thanks for a worthwhile and good question, it's good to think about human behaviour and important things, like life etc. :]

One tends to pass out. Let the public hero out and get blamed. It's not easy. Such and similar situations make me nervous, so I prefer to look twice. If it became evidently really dangerous, I'd do something, at least use a cellphone. When the situation calms down, I don't care any further.

I would ignore it unless she was being raped or seriously beaten.

I feel contempt for women who stay with men who mistreat them. I actually hate them.

Why should I risk injury trying to help a woman who I know will probably go back to him afterwards anyway?

I actually know of a case where a woman gave evidence against a man who tried to stop her being abused by her boyfriend. The boyfriend ended up in hospital with slight injuries and his girlfriend backed him up on his assault charge against the "hero".

I'm afraid that it's only ladies who deserve to be saved from violence not women in general.

Hmmm... some people don't want help. If a guy was robbing a woman, definitely. If they're in a relationship, I would bear witness. Maybe that would distract the guy ("What are you looking at?"), and approach the woman afterwards & see if she wanted to press charges. Disharmony to one may be music to another.

I would help, I have been put in this situation with a close friend of mine when I was very young, her boyfriend was beating her and I heard her calling for help, everyone told me it was none of my business so I did nothing, about a month later she was murdered.

I would stop to help, most definitely. Guys like that need to see a show of force for them to back down and if I got injured then I would know it was while doing something worthwhile. Then I would charge him and sue the crap out of him lol.

I've done it several times. One time the couple stopped arguing turned around and BOTH of them started laying into me, now there's gratitude for you!
