I can reccomend Ibuprofen. It is a pain killer and an anti-inflammatory. Both are ideal for any sort of pain generated in the mouth.

If the pain is really unbareable, you can get 'Nurofen Plus' from a pharmacy. This has Ibuprofen and Codeine, Codeine being a painkiller that works in a completely different way, if the Ibuprofen doesn't hit the source of pain, the Codeine certainly will.

Please read the instructions on the packet, as there are some people that are allergic to both of the above painkillers.

I used Boots own versionof Bonjella (it's cheaper but does the same) and took the strongest painkillers you could buy.
You could even go to the doctor to see if they could prescribe you stronger painkillers like coedine.

Something quick and fast is Baby Orajel. It might sound weird using it on an adult, but it works pretty much instantly and tastes okay too.

Go to your chemist and ask for the strongest over the counter pain killer you can get. Honestly, it's the best thing you can get, unless you ask your doctor or dentist for some anaesthetic gel.
