let go! Faith is believing without evidence. Many of the lies they teach in church don't stand up to scrutiny. Leave faith in the dust where it belongs. Choose the wonderment of the beautiful real world.

To have faith in something means to belief in it in an unconditional way, no matter what.
I think it is very difficult for human beings to have that kind of faith in anything. And I think that is because human beings are rational creatures by which I mean we have a great capacity for learning and understanding, and we are sceptical of what we cannot understand.
However there is a lot of things of which we know anything and that is usually the territory that religious faith occupy. But the development of science and the growth of our knowledge are the natural enemy of religious faith as they provide explanations to the things we want to know and usually the answers and explanations provided by science are easier to believe for us.
I think what is happening to you is not unusual. Catholicism is quite strong in some countries in the world - poor and underdeveloped countries. However, people are growing uninterested in religion in developed countries, including Catholic countries that have been traditionally very religious such as Spain. This is no surprise as technology and science have had a great impact on such countries over the last century.

Absolutely, positively understandable
Faith is the ability to believe without proof, any faith, any belief system...
If having a faith is important to you, I would suggest that you read Armstrong's "A History of God" ....the Campbell series on mythology....you might even try "The Avesta" for a completely different [ancient] myth/religion...you might even want to try Buber's "I and Thou"...some of the Gnostic writings also
Read a LOT...take what you want...leave the rest
as the ancient Greek philosophers were wont to say
"To thy own self be true"
No one can force a belief on you...
If you find a description of a god that you could believe in...go for it, at the least, believe-have faith- in your own innate godliness...and not by any Christian/Catholic/ Jewish/ "religion"
Good luck wrestling with this "demon"...
been there done that a long time ago

When it all comes right down to it, thats all you got, faith. If you don't have faith in God then you're lost. There are many people on here that are lost because they don't believe in God, don't become one of those people. I'm not Catholic, I'm Southern Baptist and I don't know what your beliefs are, but I do know that faith in God will get you through anything, all you have to do is believe.

First of all, faith should not be something you "hold on to". Faith is something that you have inside and that should grow stronger every day, regardless of what changes around you. If you feel the need to hold on, than you didn't have faith in the first place.

Just because you have faith doesnt mean you cant have fun in your life mate. Take myself I'm a Christian but dont class myself as any of the other sects because I look at it in a more liberal or common sense fashion. But what counts is I believe thats all God really wants at the end of the day. As the bible says he gave us free will. What I'm sayin mate is live your life but watch what you do like.

Having faith is believing that the impossible is possible. It is the though we keep on telling ourselve that our desires, want and need are going to be accomplished no matter what. It is the understanding that the impossible is possible, that just because we cannot see God, he does exist and to me that is more important than religion.

Personally, I find it quite hard to hang on to my profound conviction that humans shape their own destinies (within the constraints provided by nature), when the temptation to throw away my integrity and get religion is always lying in front of me.

Its a high risk strategy but I would suggest talking to a priest. Preferably a Jesuit as those chaps have serious intellectual rigour on their side.
I say "high risk" because you might end up talking to Fathers Ted and Dougal! That might put you off for the rest of your life.

Everything is an act of faith: crossing a bridge, entering an elevator, depositing money, confinding to a friend, falling in love.
