i like geoffrey rush in shine. his was such a darker, more complex character who was very involved in his own improvement. you clearly saw how much emotion he wanted to impress on others to come to terms with the severely strained relationship with his father. i empathized with him more than, (although great, too) the two other characters you listed. and the film's script allowed his character to do this; the film was much more rewarding in the end.

Crowe was completely freaky in A Beautiful Mind, but I like Bob Geldof from The Wall.
