can I use any 9v dc power adapter for all my guitar effect pedals or will they get damaged?

will any 9v dc adapter work on any effect pedal that takes it even if the pedal's manufacturer tells you to buy only their product?

it's a boss ds-1 distortion pedal.

As long as it's a 9V device and the adapter is the correct polarity then it should work fine. Some plugs the center is ground, others the center is positive. Be very sure this matches.

The other issue is if the amps are different.

If the pedal requires 100 mA and the adapter is rated higher or equal that value, you are okay as well.

If the pedal requires 500 mA and the adapter is rated at 100mA then you may end up damaging both adapter and pedal.
