Norton anti-virus and you have to make sure that you keep it up to date. I have had good experiences with Spy Sweeper by Webroot. Spy Sweeper is not a free program like some of the others are but keep in mind you get what you pay for. I also highly recommend using firewall software. You can buy the Norton anti-virus and their firewall bundled together.

First: Firewall - to prevent malicious intrusions and other hacking attempts (you can use Zone Alarm from http://www.zonealarm.com or others)

Second: Anti-virus - to scan for viruses and block script activations in real time (you can use AVG from http://www.grisoft.com or others).

Third: You will need anti-adwares, anti-malwares and anti-spiwares that come along with cookies planted by the web sites you visit as well as those pages that you bookmark (you can use Ad-Aware SE by http://www.lavasoftusa.com/software/adaware and Spybot S&D by http://www.safer-networking.org/en/index.html ).

All of these you may download for free from those I've cited then install at your computer system. You need to regularly update them, however, particularly for the AVG, Ad-Aware SE and Spybot S&D. Zone Alarm automatically updates itself for a brief period (just a few seconds) that you won't even notice it happening.

Get a "Router" and use it. Learn how to "Restore" your system and how to "Edit" your Registry. 8-)
